Editha ("Edey") Murphree Reed

Extracted from The Murphree Ancestry of Bill R. Linder

Editha Murphree, daughter of Daniel and Sarah Murphree, was born about 1762 in North Carolina. She was born in either Bertie or Orange County. This was about the time of her family's move from Bertie to Orange. She married Reuben Reed. They had at least two daughters and lived for a time in Pendleton District, South Carolina. The family seems to have followed the same migration pattern as did many of the Murphrees, going from North Carolina to South Carolina, then to Tennessee, and later to Alabama. Reuben Reed was reported as age 70-79 in the Walker County, Alabama, census for 1840.

Very little is known about this family. The two Reed daughters who have been identified are:

1. Martha Reed, md Dan McCarns.

2. Elizabeth Reed, b. 22 Oct 1797 [likely] Pendleton Dist., SC, d. 22 Mar 1847, Walker Co., ALl, md. 8 Sep 1816, Martin Ward (b. 17 Nov 1794 Wilkes Co., GA, D. 11 Mar 1865, Walker Co. AL, a son of Mathias Ward and Elizabeth Salmons.)
